Commons Winter Park

Commons Park, 6249 7th St NE, Fridley, MN | Get Directions »

Looking for outdoor fun? Fridley has a great outdoor park at the Commons Park that includes the warming house, sledding hill, two hockey rinks, an ice skating rink, and best of all the Jr. High running track that I dreaded as a teen has been transformed into a frozen oval for skating. I’m sure some of you have known this but I believe this free Winter Park is the best in the area with great staff and well maintained ice. The grounds are completely smoke free as well.

This brings me back many years and I’m happy Fridley has made this park available for family friendly fun.  This park is a great family friendly and safe place to enjoy winter activities with great lighting and lots to enjoy such as sledding, tubing, snowboarding, skating, boot and ice hockey, even broom-ball. If you don’t have a stick they have a few loaners. If you have extra gear you want to donate this is in my opinion the best place to do so. I plan on spending lots of time there with my son this weekend; I may even bring a small grill and make it a long day. The warming house hours should be posted soon and perhaps even a sign outside soon as requested.  The warming house has available drinks and snacks for a fair price and a portable bathroom as well.
Thank you Fridley staff members for providing this to us.
See you there!!

Warming house hours are posted in the warming house and at the Fridley Parks and Rec webpage:

  • Weekdays 3–9 p.m.
  • Weekends, holidays and school-out days, noon–9 p.m.

Is it possible to have it all? Commons Park comes close: tennis courts, ball diamonds, football/soccer fields, ice for skating and hockey, a picnic shelter and a playground. And best of all, in winter: a sledding hill.
