Notes from the FridleyPatch's editor's desk.
Editor's note: HuffPost Live invited me on their live webcast Monday afternoon to talk about President Obama's appearance in north Minneapolis. If the video clip doesn't appear above, you can see it at HuffPost Live.
Did this comment on a Fridley Patch post about the Minnesota Vikings stadium bill use language that violates the Patch Terms of Use? "this deal makes economic and social sense, no one is really paying anything all monies are returned and we get to help charities and add to our general fund. Arguments against are stupid, uneducated, and have to do with personal agendas. I saw a poll from 2 years ago and 80% favored a new stadium, it is the will of the people." These are some of the ways Fridley made news last week—at Fridley Patch and elsewhere. Owner Ray Witz told Fridley Patch he didn't know yet if he'll rebuild. Fire Chief John Berg said fire fighters' quick work and solid barrier between buildings kept the flames contained. You can thank a Fridley man if you like your Lake Superior shipwrecks preserved. As a founder of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society, Ken Merryman works to…
Here are some of the Fridley stories that made news last week at Fridley Patch and elsewhere. The big snow storm Dec. 11–12 brought renewed pleas for residents to shovel out their nearest fire hydrants, as Anna Pratt reported for Fridley Patch. Fridley police ordered illegally parked cars towed from the side of roadways—including at least one "snowbird" completely covered in snow, our police blotter noted—so plows could clear the streets. Meanwhile, Fridley property-owner Dan Hansen posted a plea for more plowing of bike and walking paths. His Fridley Patch opinion column highlighted one path…
Hi. My name is Chris Steller, editor of Fridley Patch. I'd like to welcome you to this new website all about Fridley. It's a place for folks in Fridley to get local news, say what's on their minds and see what's going on around town. I come from just downriver in Minneapolis, where I grew up, on the east side, a few blocks from the Mississippi. For eight years I edited neighborhood newspapers there, serving communities that border the river like Fridley does. I got to know Fridley while doing remodeling and maintenance on houses for a family-owned business that's based here. You might have …
