Fridley Mayor Scott Lund said redevelopment projects on University Avenue NE have been going slower than initially expected due to the stagnant economy.

But he said he was committed to redeveloping the stretch of land, which he called "one of our most major corridors."

"I liken myself to a builder of sorts, not that I actually do the sawing and the hammering and nailing, but I like nice things and I like it for my community," Lund said.

Any initiatives the City undertakes now to maintain and improve Fridley's image and infrastructure will benefit all citizens in the long run. Aggressive actions are not feasible in this economy, but small incremental improvements during this economic downturn are justifiable investments in the City's future and will lay a foundation for moving forward with bigger steps in the future. It also sends a message to business that Fridley is still a thriving community in which to create and sell goods and services. I salute the Mayor's vision for unrelenting progress.

I see no reason for any development along Uni. Fridley was never a "destination" suburb to begin with and now that it has turned into a ghetto, that only gives people more reason not to come here.

I agree with Mayor Scott Lund, and Robert Christenson. I think it is important to take an interest in our community and our personal property. I want to be proud of my home and my community.
