Totino-Grace Finishes Second in State Jazz Dance
The E'gals out-danced all but one team to take second place in the jazz division at the state tournament.
Totino-Grace High School made a strong run at its first state dance team title since winning six straight jazz/funk titles from 1998–2003, but ultimately had to settle for second Friday evening.
Competing in the 2011 girls dance team state tournament at Target Center in Minneapolis, the E'gals danced enthusiastically and artistically, but were edged for the jazz title.
Benilde-St. Margaret’s finished first in the field of 12 Class AA teams that qualified for the state meet. After Totino-Grace's second came defending state champion St. Cloud Cathedral in third. Spring Lake Park High School's jazz dance team also made the final six.
Totino-Grace will be in more tournament action today as the E'gals compete in the high kick division, along with teams from Fridley High School and Spring Lake Park High School. The competition begins with the Class AA/AAA qualifying competition at 2:15 p.m. Saturday.
