Here are several ways people will mark the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2011 terrorist attacks with events in the Twin Cities.

Downtown Minneapolis Memorial Service at 8:30 a.m. on Sept. 11
Speakers include U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (DFL-MN). The service begins at 8:30 a.m. Sunday in the plaza at the U.S. Courthouse at Fourth Street and Third Avenue S. in downtown Minneapolis.

Minnesotans Standing Together on Sept. 11
The State Capitol Mall is the site of this 9/11 memorial event with state government leaders and representatives of 12 religious faiths.

Among the participating organizations is Fridley-based Islamic Resource Group (IRG).

Minnesotans Standing Together is set for 2-4 p.m., Sept. 11.

Statewide Public Safety Agencies' Observance on Sept. 11
Organizers have moved this event from the Minneapolis Convention Center to Grace Church, 9301 Eden Prairie Rd., Eden Prairie.

The event consists of public viewing of safety-information display starting at noon, Sept. 11, followed by a memorial ceremony from 3-4:30 p.m. As many as 3,000 people are expected, according to Fridley Fire Chief John Berg.

Patriots Day on Sept. 16
The closest to Fridley is the Patriots Day ceremony at Spring Lake Park High School, set for Sept. 16, 8 p.m. (the Friday following the 9/11 anniversary).

Former Fridley firefighter and Fire Marshal Ralph Messer will offer "Reflections from Ground Zero by a Minnesota Firefighter." Also speaking will be General Rick Nash, Adjutant General of the Minnesota National Guard. Among the other features of the free event:

• Parade of Colors including active military personnel, veterans, service organizations, and the Minnesota Patriot Guard
• Aerial ladder fire trucks flag-raising
• Minneapolis Commodores Choir
• World War II military plane flyover (the "Missing Man Formation")
• Area fire, police and emergency medical personnel in attendance
• American Heritage Pipe and Drum Corps
• POW/MIA remembrance ceremony by the Angels Brigade
• Fireworks
• Closing Ceremony and memorial for all those who have made the supreme sacrifice while serving our country or their community
