Fridley, Anoka County and parts of central and southern Minnesota are under a severe thunderstorm watch until 2 a.m. Saturday.
The National Weather Service made the announcement at 6:40 p.m. Friday.
That was 17 minutes after the NWS issued a special weather statement about a sudden storm near New Brighton.
A weeklong heat wave is coming to an end Friday evening, according to forecasters, with milder temperatures expected over the weekend.
