Sequester Could Hurt 1000s of Federal Workers and Retirees in MN

MN has 59,000 federal employees and retirees, with more than 1,750 in Anoka County. See where they live and which agencies they work for in Patch’s interactive table.

Washington, D.C., may be the hub of the federal workforce, but Minnesota has tens of thousands of federal employees and retirees who could be hurt by the looming sequestration crisis.

If the president and Congress can’t strike a deal by Friday, a series of mandated federal budget cuts would automatically kick in. That would force more than a million federal employees to take unpaid leave, according to the Washington Post.

Minnesota, alone, has about 59,000 federal employees and retirees. Anoka County accounts for 1,752 of that total, or about 3 percent. Most of those are federal retirees and Postal Service employees.

Use the table above to see how many federal employees and retirees Minnesota’s counties have. Just use the search box to select the county you’d like to see then click on “Details” in the results to see which agencies they work for.

When you’re done, share your thoughts in the comments section below about how you think the sequestration could affect your community.

Federal government employees are not a "protected" class. Years and years of dysfunctional government has negatively impacted most people; the future of this country is not bright.

One of the reasons for this country's economic blight is the over-generous pensions handed out to government employees at all levels of government.
