Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, is Primary Election Day in Fridley and across Minnesota. Voters select candidates to move on to the general election on Nov. 6, 2012.

Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. See the map of Fridley polling places above and the list of Fridley polling places below.

You can find your primary-election polling place by entering your home address at the Minnesota Secretary of State website, where you can also find whether you are already registered to vote. You may register to vote on Primary Election Day at the polls if you are eligible to vote and can provide proof of residency.

Some polling places in Fridley have changed with recent redistricting. Here is primary election polling place information from the City of Fridley:

Fridley Ward 1 Precinct 1
Grace Evangelical Free Church, 755 73rd Ave NE, Fridley

Voters will continue to vote at Grace Evangelical Church located at 755 73rd Avenue NE.  However, voters will now be using Entrance A in the front of the building (South Side).  The voting will take place in their new Fellowship Hall just inside the door to Entrance A.

Fridley Ward 1 Precinct 2
Hayes Elementary School West Gym, 615 Mississippi St. NE, Fridley

For the Primary Election only, voters will be directed to vote in the lunchroom at Hayes Elementary School.  The lunchroom does have a cooling system that will be most beneficial during the heat.    We will be using the EAST entrance of the building for the Primary Electon.

Fridley Ward 2 Precinct 4
North Park Elementary School, 5575 Fillmore St NE, Fridley

Ward 2 Precincts 4 and 5 have been combined into one precinct, Ward 2 Precinct 4. Voters in that location will no longer have to determine which gym to vote in as there will only be one polling location in the full gym.

Springbrook Nature Center, 100 85th Ave. NE, Fridley

Fridley Ward 3 Precinct 2
Redeemer Lutheran Church, 61 Mississippi Way NE, Fridley

Fridley Ward 3 Precinct 3

For the Primary Election, voters will be directed to vote in the lunchroom at Stevenson Elementary School.  The lunchroom does have a cooling system that will be most beneficial during the heat.

Fridley Ward 3 Precinct 4
Fridley Covenant Church, 6390 University Ave. NE, Fridley

Voters will continue to vote at Fridley Covenant Church. Voters are asked to park and use the east entrance (The entrance facing University Avenue) to vote. The church does provide meals from 5–7 pm in the back (west side) or lower level of the church. Look for directional signs to help on Election Day.

Primary elections decide which candidates will appear on the General Election ballots in November. Contested primary elections for partisan offices are those for which two or more candidates from one political party have filed for office. (Voters registered with a political party choose among that party's candidates for partisan offices.) Contested primary elections for non-partisan offices are those for which more than two candidates have filed.

Local non-partisan contested primary races include:

  • Fridley City Councilmember at Large (on all ballots in the city of Fridley)
  • District 13 School Board (on all ballots in the Columbia Heights School District, which includes parts of Fridley)
