POLL: Should Winter Storms and Tornadoes Have Names?
The Weather Channel will start giving names to winter storms.
The Weather Channel announced Wednesday they will start giving winter storms names—like Brutus, Draco, Orko and Ukko—the same way hurricanes have names. Do you agree with that move?
And why stop there? Should we start giving tornadoes names too, so we don't have to call them by their years and locations, such as:
- May 2011 "North Minneapolis Tornado" (it hit Fridley too!)
- 1986 Springbrook Nature Center Tornado (see YouTube videos)
- 1965 Fridley Tornado
Vote in the polls above and leave a comment below.

I just wish they'd come up with better names. I like the Scandinavian angle with many of them, but can anyone read "Khan" and not hear William Shatner screaming in the background? "Winter Storm Nemo" is not going to strike fear into anyone's heart. The list seems more like fodder for late-night talk show hosts than anything else.

I hope you realize TWC cannot name them because I own the commercial rights to name them, not them.

That link shows all you need to know. You state "any channel could copy TWC?" No, no one is allowed to use Winter Storm names if I do not give the rights away. I am the rights holder since 1998 and the link above shows 2006 is when a respected LA Meteorologist told his region I named Winter Storms. I own the commercial rights and TWC will need to either drop the project or pay me ... I am naming the Winter Storms this season ...not them or anyone else.
TheWeatherSpace.com is opening a major studio/office in Los Angeles that will be taking off nationally to our 10,000k people on Facebook and growing fast. Projection next year by tornado season will be 30,000 people or higher with advertising done right. TWC breaching our rights will confuse the masses ... They likely will not name one storm if they do not come to an agreement with my network.

Screw naming storms, that's so 2006.
I'm appointing myself offical rain drop and snow flake namer. Oh, and I also patent every snow flake design that falls because no one else has. Because I said this in a forum its now legit and therefore the law and no one else can use my idea because i said it first.
and this my friends, is howpathetic Kevin Martin sounds...

No. Winter storms shouldn't have names. That's just dumb.

Yes they make people listen. In are everyday lifes we don't always here watches and warnings and people get them confused. Hurricanes get listened to because they are serious and have names. Winter storms can cause lost of life and limb if people are not ready.
