PHOTO: Walmart Banner Protest Not a Strike

Carpenters' union maintains presence at stores at Fridley and elsewhere that's unrelated to any Walmart workers' actions.

Passersby who have grown used to a large "Shame on Walmart" banner outside the Walmart store in Fridley might assume it has something to do with news of Walmart workers' recent labor actions.

But the sign along University Service Road West at the edge of the Walmart parking lot is for an unrelated cause, according to a flier from the three men who were holding up the sign Wednesday.

The flier from the North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters describes its labor dispute with Walmart over contracting work. A disclaimer at the bottom of the flier reads: "We are not urging any worker to refuse to work nor are we urging any supplier to refuse to deliver."
