One Fridley Man's Opinion: Pass the Marriage Amendment

It will prevent activist judges and politicians from lifting state's ban on same-sex unions, he wrote in a letter to the Grand Forks Herald.

The Grand Forks Herald carried a letter Sunday from Fridley resident Paul Dreblow on the proposed marriage amendment to the Minnesota Constitution. An excerpt:

Passage of the marriage protection amendment ensures that the people of Minnesota themselves—not activist judges or politicians—will decide how our state will define marriage in the future.

Without a marriage amendment in our constitution, activist judges and politicians can substitute their values for those of the people of Minnesota.

This is exactly what happened elsewhere. The marriage protection amendment will help make sure it will not happen in Minnesota.

Paul Dreblow and all other anti-gay marriage activists should ask themselves why THEY should be able to tell people who they can and cannot marry. Who are THEY to tell people how to live and behave? Many of these people also consider themselves to be so-called "Christians." And these people also condemn gay people in Jesus' name. But Jesus was very specific. "Judge not, lest you be judged," and " Why is it you can see a speck in one's eye, but you cannot see the log in your own," and for those who think they are rallying against gay marriage in the name of Jesus, it might be important for them to reread this statement by Jesus, himself..... "Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ " Do these people think for 5 seconds that Jesus was NOT referring to them? Then who?

OK, I do believe in Marriage between a man and women, but If GOD made these people then we should just let them do their own thing. They can get married, but I hate all this hype. I think that the gay men brought alot of this on themselves, by dressing like women and acting so weird and some just for the sex (not all). When I grew up I had two or three gay men as friends. They came to dinner,(with Their MOMS and did not 0ver act or dress weird (like women) I loved them. God made them different, but they acted like normal people and if one dressed as a female, they did it in their homes. They lived together for 50 yrs. This coming out of the closet should be private. No ones business,,, I am 72 yrs old,,s,

So, men want to marry men and women want to marry women. IS THIS NATURAL? IT IS NOT!!! Man was created to mary woman and pro-create thus perpetuating the human race. There is NOTHING in the Bible that encourages gay relationships. Believe it or not, gays and lesbians are still in the minority in this country but with all the attention this is receiving you would think that straight people are the minority. If men want to marry men and women want to marry women, they can also move someplace (other countries or states) that allows it instead of corrupting other states ino passing laws further contributing to the fall of man.

How is this any different than telling two people of different races that they can't legally marry each other? Remember we used to do that? Thankfully, we realized how stupid that law was and changed it. So why are we trying to do basically the same thing, AGAIN? Race, sexual orientation, it doesn't matter, it's still discrimination. And it shouldn't matter what your religious beliefs are because our government is supposed to be separate from religion, at least in it's laws. You can believe that two women or two men shouldn't be able to get married, but that doesn't mean that you should have the right to stop it. Our goal should be to encourage happy, healthy relationships that will lead to good parenting and stronger communities with the ultimate goal of a much healthier society.

I dont understand the energy people put towards such things. How do such things affect them and therfore bother them? I think there are larger issues to spend time on. Also the Republican Party is supposed to be for getting the government out of people's lives and reduce regulation. This issue pushed by the Republican Party does not matchtheir own philosophy.

So, with all the pro gay and lesbian marriage responses I'm seeing, I guess the concepts of natual versus unnatural; good versus bad and right versus wrong are all things of the past and the old 1960's adage of "I'm ok, you're ok" is the new standard? OK then...be prepared to ratify marijuana, heroine, LSD, polygamy, as these will be claimed to be 'life choices' and should be allowed as right and wrong are 'old school' passe thinking! WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES MINNESOTA! Right is right and WRONG IS WRONG! Don't let the FACT that the reason the Pilgrims came to America in the first place was for freedom to worship God and follow the teachings of the Bible. Why do you think gays and lesbians have been 'in the closet' people in the first place? It's not because this lifestyle was an acceptable behavior! Is it OK to drive 60 MPH in a 40 MPH speed zone after all, your just driving and as long as you hit nobody or nothing, there should be nothing wrong with it? Is it OK to drive a 2000 pound car or truck and not wear a seatbelt when people driving 500 pound motorcycles can drive them without wearing helmets or seatbelts? THINK ABOUT IT.
