Fridley-based Medtronic said Wednesday it will cut 268 local jobs as part of company-wide layoffs announced earlier this year.

How many of those job losses are at Medtronic's two Fridley campuses is unclear. "We do not have a specific figure for Fridley," spokesman Brian Henry said.

In February, Medtronic said it would be cutting 4 to 5 percent of its worldwide workforce. The company has 8,000 employees in Minnesota, with 2,800 working at its headquarters and Rice Creek campus in Fridley. A 5 percent reduction in the number of Medtronic workers in Fridley would be 140 fewer jobs in the city.
