Tree Carving Graces Fridley Home
Where have you found art in an unexpected place?
Cars slowing down and people doing double takes are common at 63rd Avenue and Pierce Street in Fridley.
Marvel McNaughton contacted a chain-saw artist to transform what was left of a maple tree in her yard after finding out the cost of removing it would be about the same.
The result was a work of art honoring her American Indian heritage.
The carving represents a mountain, with a stream carved into the middle flowing onto the rocks at the base, while an Eagle oversees an Indian princess, mama bear and cub.

Did you also see the house at the other end of the block? That one has a metal sculpture in it's front yard along with rocks and assorted items strategically placed throughout the yard. Then, if you go around the corner, you have the chiropractic clinic with the unusual rock sign. Lots of unusual and creative items to look at within a two block radius! Fridley has some very creative people!
