UPDATE: MN Senate Finance Panel Passes Vikings Stadium Bill
Sen. Barb Goodwin, who represents parts of Fridley, abstained.
The Minnesota Senate Finance Committee voted 9-5 Wednesday afternoon to pass the Minnesota Vikings stadium without recommendation forward to the Taxes Committee.
State Sen. Barb Goodwin (DFL-50), who represents much of Fridley and is a member of the committee, abstained during the committee's final vote.
On an earlier voice vote, Goodwin voted with the losing side to amend the bill so that Minneapolis citizens would hold a referendum on spending more than $10,000 on a professional sports facility, in accordance with the city's charter.
Another amendment, adding racino gambling as a source of funding for the stadium, passed over objections that it would kill the bill's chances. (Goodwin's vote on that amendment wasn't audible.)
Goodwin asked for people's opinions on the stadium bill (S.F. 2391—here's a summary) in an email Tuesday.

If this stadium is going to cost this much, will an average person really be able to afford a ticket to see a game? Or will it only be for the wealthy elite and corporate people? Jerry Jones new Cowboy's Stadium costs $300 per ticket for a cheap seat and $30 for general parking. People don't mind helping to pay if they feel they can actually afford to go to a game now and then!

I'm a huge Minnesota Vikings Fan and live here in Fridley. I will not vote for Pam Wolf or Barb Goodwin this coming fall in the election. These people are supposed to represent us. What a joke! Pam Wolf voted against the stadium and Barb Goodwin didn't even vote! What kind of example is this for our young people? If they can build a new stadium for the Twins and have beautiful arena for the Wild, I believe the Minnesota Vikings deserve a new stadium. It will create more jobs, more revenue for downtown businesses and will be used for concerts, professional, college, and high school sports, and will continue to be part of our Minnesota culture for many years to come. It would cost twice as much if we lost the team and wanted to attract an expansion team later down the road. I want to continue to cheer on my favorite sports team every week during football season. Skol Vikings!!!

I agree with Greg. Target Arena, Xcel Center,Target Stadium and TCF Bank...everyone came together to get these venues built. Why does it have to be so painful to get it done for the Vikings?!

Yes, Jeremy...you can purchase a $75 ticket....in fact the average ticket price for a Cowboys ticket is $160. I live in Dallas-Ft. Worth, so....this has been a source of controversy since the stadium opened. Fact is, at that price, and that is probably for a preseason game, you will be watching the action in the rafters on a huge jumbo-tron screen which hangs over nearly the whole field. If you really want to watch the game like most people who pay to see live action, you will have to pay dearly for those tickets. There is also an outdoor esplanade with a jumbo-tron, and you can pay to watch it there, too, if you can't afford to purchase an inside ticket. Average cost for that ticket is $150 and it includes some hot dogs or nachos and a drink. Honestly, if you are going to have to watch a game on a TV screen, why not just stay home! These days, you could purchase a nice big wide screen TV for the cost of a family of 4 to go to one game.

Don't get me wrong...I believe The Vikings should get their stadium, and I think Minnesota should pony up and help them pay for it. To lose the Vikings would be heartbreaking for the fans. I lived in Cleveland when the Browns up and moved due to a similar "build us a new stadium" issue. It was horrible to witness. There were those who didn't think Art Modell would ever do such a thing. But he did because...it's business for these owners, not personal. The city fought the NFL to retain the rights to the Brown's name and the colors. But the stats stayed with the team, The Baltimore Ravens! It took years for Cleveland to get another team, and the city still had to build a new stadium.
