UPDATED: Jailed 'Jane Doe' Was on Multi-state Crime Spree, Police Say

She's been in Anoka County Jail since Tuesday on suspicion of burglary in Fridley.

Update (noon Friday):

Update (2:15 p.m. Thursday): The case of "Jane Doe" appears to be a multi-state crime spree involving theft of a motor vehicle and many people's IDs, according to a police account and court documents.

According to Lt. Mike Monsrud of the Fridley Police Department, "Jane Doe" is being held under a contempt-of-court order for 60 day for refusing to give her real name in court Wednesday before Judge Dyanna L. Street.

Monsrud described evidence at the Fridley house where a police dog subdued her Monday night, including a Ford Explorer stolen in Wisconsin as well as other people's mail and IDs from Wisconsin to the Twin Cities.

Update (12:30 p.m. Thursday): It appears the "Jane Doe" at Anoka County Jail who won't give authorities her name may be behind bars for the long haul.

The latest word from Cmdr. Paul Sommer at the Anoka County Sheriff's Office is that she has been charged under the name "Jane Doe" and will remain in custody on her charges, subject to any order of the court.

Staff at the Anoka County Attorney's Office said documents related to her case aren't in their computer system yet but promised to forward Fridley Patch a criminal complaint or other court order as they become available. Check back here for more updates.

Update (noon Thursday): The situation at Anoka County Jail, where a female inmate has refused to give authorities her name or be photographed since her arrest in Fridley on Monday, is highly unusual, according to Cmdr. Paul Sommer of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office:

It’s a very rare event, so much so that I can't remember the last time something like this has happened. There is no photo because she refuses to cooperate with being photographed and we are not going to get into a use of force situation to take what will undoubtabley be an unusable photograph. She will remain in custody as a "Jane Doe" until such time as she cooperates with the booking process or until she is released by court order.

Last week Edina police dealt with a male inmate who refused to cooperate with a booking photograph—among other things. See the Edina Patch post: "."

Update (11:30 a.m. Thursday): Fridley police records show an incident that may be related to "Jane Doe," the woman at Anoka County Jail who continues to refuse to identify herself since her arrest Monday.

According to the Fridley Police Department's incident log, officers responded to a Fridley residence at 10:32 and took a female suspect into custody using a police-dog unit.

Is she also refusing to cooperate for a mugshot with the jail's booking photographer? Will Anoka County prosecutors charge her without a name? How common is it for female inmates to withhold their identity from authorities for three days?

Look for updates to this post with answers to these questions as officials at the Fridley Police Department, Anoka County Sheriff's Office and Anoka County Attorney's office return messages.
