Fridley High Wrestlers Place Second at Section Team Tournament

The Tigers defeated Rogers and Totino-Grace before losing to Monticello.

's team came in second Saturday at the Section 5AA wrestling tournament in Monticello. The Tigers beat Rogers 54-19 and Totino-Grace 38-33 on their way to losing the championship 68-6 to Monticello.

"Monticello matched up well with the Tigers," Fridley coach Eric Anderson said by email. "At weights where Fridley was solid, Monticello was good. At weights where Fridley was good, Monticello was excellent."

Highlights, according to Anderson, included quick pins by senior co-captains Patrick Faber and Jesse Root after the lead went back and forth in the semifinal with , a team Fridley also beat earlier in the season.

In the final, Anderson said, junior Bobby Simmons provided a thrill with a pin late in his match.

The Tigers are looking forward to the Section individual tournament this upcoming weekend, Anderson said, adding that he expects several wrestlers to place high and possibly earn a trip to the state tournament.
