Fridley 'Diaper Duty' Mom Pleads Guilty to Malicious Punishment

For shaving her 12-year-old daughter's hair and forcing her to wear a diaper and tank top in front of a crowd, Stephanie Ann Broten faces up to one year in prison and a fine of as much as $3,000.

Stephanie Ann Broten of Fridley pled guilty Monday to malicious "diaper duty" punishment of her 12-year-old daughter last May, WCCO-TV reported.

Prosecutors said Broten, 38, and boyfriend Darnell Alan Landrum, 35, shaved the girl's head and made her wear a diaper and tank top in public because of an F on her report card.

Police arrested them May 7 at the Rice Creek Townhomes in Fridley after a neighbor reported the incident, which lasted about 30 minutes.

Guilty is not how Broten and Landrum acted that day.

"It was a very strange thing," Fridley Police Lt. Mike Monsrud said later. The couple joked and laughed about the situation in the back of the squad car, Monsrud said—apparently not understanding that anything was wrong with the punishment.

Landrum faces the same charge. Broten's sentencing is in three weeks, WCCO reported.
