E. River Rd. Lane Closures Start for Centerpoint Energy Project
Southbound drivers have one lane between 63-1/2 Way and I-694.
Drivers heading southbound on East River Road in Fridley will begin encountering stretches where the road is reduced to one lane Monday.
Get used to it—the lane reductions are part of a Centerpoint Energy project that will last through the summer. The first stretch affected is the segment just north of I-694.
CenterPoint Energy will be replacing a pipeline along East River Road between 63 1/2 Way and 42nd Avenue. Beginning Monday, May 7, the outside southbound lane of East River Road will be closed. Work in this area will be done in two phases: Phase I work will be done between 63 1/2 Way and I-694; Phase II work will be done between the north ramps of I-694 and 42nd Avenue. This project is anticipated to last through September, 2012.
Two other things you may have noticed are related to the pipeline work:
- a row of more than a dozen mature cottonwood trees being removed along East River Road at Riverfront Park just south of I-694, and
- activity in the parking lot at Columbia Arena on University Avenue NE, which Centerpoint Energy will use as a staging area for its East River Road project.
