State Rep. Connie Bernardy announced Thursday that she "would like to invite all who are interested to attend an informational session with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on January 30 at the Fridley Community Center."

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will sponsor two informational sessions to discuss the formation of a Community Advisory Group to advise environmental regulators on the Fridley-area cleanup sites.  At the sessions, EPA staff will provide information on how to form a Community Advisory Group and choose its members.  Community Advisory Group membership is voluntary, and participants should be willing to serve two-year terms.  Community Advisory Groups meet regularly to review site information and relay community views and concerns to the EPA.  All Community Advisory Group meetings are open to the public.

The EPA decided to form a Community Advisory Group after concerns about Fridley’s Superfund cleanup site grew last year.  Rep. Bernardy requested that a group be formed so that residents in our community have access to information and have a voice in addressing this important environmental issue in our community.

“I know that people in our community are interested in learning more about this issue,” said Rep. Bernardy. “This is a great opportunity to bring people together in our community to form a Community Advisory Group.”
