Paddling Programs in Three River Park District
The Three Rivers Park District is providing the upcoming kayaking, canoeing and paddling programs at nearby parks.
KidSplash II
Thursday, July 12, from 6-8 p.m., at French Regional Park, Plymouth. Take your kayaking to the next level! In KidSplash II the emphasis is on being self-sufficient on the water and learning new paddling techniques. Students will learn about rescues, advanced paddle strokes, and wet exits through different activities and games. All equipment is provided. Cost is $20 and reservations are required. Mississippi River Canoe
Saturday, July 14, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park, 10360 West River Road,
Brooklyn Park. Discover one of the scenic sides of the Twin Cities while paddling past island chains on the mighty Mississippi. Participants will paddle past heron rookeries and old speak easies from Prohibition, while learning about the natural and cultural history of the river. We will start at Coon Rapids Dam, stop half way for a stretch and lunch, then continue to North Mississippi Regional Park. Intermediate canoeing skills are required. Flatwater Kayaking Essentials for Women
Saturday, July 14, from 9 a.m.-noon, at Fish Lake Regional Park, Maple Grove. Our hands-on beginning classes are set up to teach beginning paddlers about safety, proper paddling form, and paddle strokes. Participants will learn the basics of kayaking from qualified instructors surrounded by the beauty of a nature-based park. All equipment is provided. Cost is $50 and reservations are required.
