August Kayaking, Canoeing Programs at Three Rivers Park District

Three Rivers offers a variety of paddling programs designed specifically for families, women or beginners.

Flatwater Kayaking Essentials for Women

Saturday, Aug.11, from 9 a.m.-noon at Fish Lake Regional Park, Maple Grove. We’ll spend more than an hour on the lake. When we’re done, you’ll know how to safely get into and out of your boat. You will also learn to make a kayak go in a straight line, spin in one spot, and everything in between. Cost is $50 and reservations are required. Flatwater Kayaking Essentials

Saturday, August 11, from 1-4 p.m., at Fish Lake Regional Park, Maple Grove. Our hands-on beginning classes are set up to teach beginning paddlers about safety, proper paddling form, and paddle strokes. Participants will learn the basics of kayaking from qualified instructors. All equipment is provided. Cost is $50 and reservations are required. KidSplash I

Sunday, Aug.12, from noon-2 p.m., or 3-5 p.m. at French Regional Park, Plymouth. At KidSplash I, we’ll spend more than an hour on the lake learning the fine art of kayaking. Students will learn how to safely enter and exit the kayak, to paddle a kayak in a straight line, execute a spin in one spot, and everything in between. All equipment is provided. This program is for ages 8-10.

Beginning Canoeing for Women

Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 6-8 p.m., at Fish Lake Regional Park, Maple Grove. This lesson for beginners is designed around having fun, being safe, and learning proper paddling techniques. Participants will learn water safety, entering and exiting a canoe, and proper paddling techniques with different paddle strokes. Cost is $15 and reservations are required. KidSplash I
